Overview[edit | edit source]
According to resources.data.gov, an API is “a predefined protocol for reading and/or writing data using a filesystem, a database, or across a network. Common types of data APIs include ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) and SQL (Structured Query Language) for databases and REST APIs for the web.”
APIs help data move from one point to another so they can be used among various applications.
