Overview[edit | edit source]

SCORM is the most common standard followed for learning management systems (LMS). Created by the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative in 2000 ([1]).

The ADL Initiative is “is a government program reporting to the Defense Human Resources Activity (DHRA), under the Director, DHRA … and is one of nine functional mission areas of the Defense Support Services Center (DSSC).” ([2]).

The SCORM standard helps e-learning tools communicate with learning management systems. SCORM is a technical standard, not an instructional or content standard, that helps ensure that digital tools for e-learning can communicate their data with an education organization’s learning management system.
